Walmart worker loses arm in accident at distribution center

TOBYHANNA, Pa. -- Officials say a Walmart employee lost his arm in an accident at a distribution center in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Walmart spokeswoman Erica Jones tells the Pocono Record the man remains hospitalized after the Dec. 30 accident. The company wouldn't release the man's name or give any details.

Pocono Mountain Regional Ambulance Operations Director Denise Doremus says the accident happened at the Walmart Distribution Center in Tobyhanna.

She says the victim's arm was put on ice and he was taken by ambulance to a Scranton hospital. A medical helicopter had to be canceled because of weather.

Jones says the safety of workers is Walmart's "top priority" and the company is "fully supporting" him and his family.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
