NYC Street Kidnapping: Man, woman kidnapped on New York City street may be a hoax, police say

(CBS/AP) -- Police said an unidentified man and women who were reportedly kidnapped last week in Manhattan may have been a hoax, CBS New York reports.

Surveillance video showed a man and woman walking down a street in Washington Heights on Friday evening when two men were seen running after them, according to the station. A dark-colored minivan then pulls up and drives away.

Police said several people called 911 that night reporting that they heard a woman scream and saw two men forcing the victims into the van at gunpoint. However, no one has reported them missing as of Sunday night, CBS New York reports.

Police said they are investigating the incident as a hoax, possibly a joke between friends for a birthday prank, according to the station.
