(CBS) Philadelphia - A 24-year-old woman has been charged after posing as a nurse and assaulting a child at Saint Christopher's Hospital for Children, say Philadelphia police.

CBS Philly reported that Ashley Delvalle, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with simple assault, indecent assault and related offenses, for the incident that allegedly occurred on Tuesday, April 2.

Police say they responded to the hospital and were told that Delvalle went into several patients' rooms, telling parents that she was a nurse, and would be performing physical examinations.

According to authorities, Delvalle proceeded to physically touch one child inappropriately and took the weight of another child.

Police say they determined that Delvalle was at the hospital with her own child, CBS Philly reported.

Authorities say Delvalle does not hold the required license from the Pennsylvania Board to perform the duties of either a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered Nurse.

Saint Christopher's Hospital for Children issued the following statement Thursday:

"When we were informed by the patient's mother of the alleged assault, we immediately notified the Philadelphia Police Department and Philadelphia Department of Human Services... The safety of our patients...is our top priority and we are firmly committed to providing a secure environment for both patients and staff."
