Police arrest naked man with arsenal of weapons in his home

PELHAM, N.H. -- New Hampshire police responding to a report of a man yelling that he "shot four people" Saturday evening found a suspect sitting naked in his apartment, where he had seven guns and more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition, reports CBS Boston.

Officers say one of the guns was loaded and was near 67-year-old Mark Schlagel when they entered his Pelham, N.H., apartment. Schlagel reportedly told the officers that there were four people that attempted to break into his apartment by cutting a hole in the closet wall. He said he shot them as they tried to break in.

Police did not find any gunshot victims, but found that the man had allegedly fired several rounds into a wall.

Neighbor Terry Payne said Schlagel had shot the gun toward her apartment.

"I don't mind people having guns. It's not the guns that kill people, it's the people behind them," Payne told CBS Boston.

Payne says she plans to file a restraining order against Schlagel.

Schlagel was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to undergo a mental evaluation. He will be arraigned in November.
