LOS ANGELES, Calif. (CBS/AP) The family of Monica Beresford-Redman, the wife of Bruce Beresford-Redman who was found dead in her Mexico hotel room April 8, held a fundraiser at her Zabumba Brazilian restaurant over the weekend to help pay legal bills while they fight for justice for their loved one.
Monica Beresford-Redman's sister Jeane Burgos has said that the family is "happy with the work authorities are doing to get justice for my sister," Burgos said, but the family members are anxious to get their loved one's body to the states. Friends say being able to bury Monica Beresford-Redman could go a long way to bring closure to the family.
"The family is grieving and mourning over [her death] just to think and know that her daughter is lying there dead and not bringing her home yet," a friend of Monica Beresford-Redman, Mariza Alyrio, told local station KABC.
Jeane Burgos and her mother, Ely, recently handed over e-mail between Monica Beresford-Redman and her husband Bruce which they say show the state of the marriage. Rodolfo Garcia Pliego, the assistant attorney general of the Caribbean coast state of Quintana Roo did not release the emails but did say they indicated the marriage was crumbling: "It appears there were problems there."
Beresford-Redman's loved ones say they'll use the money they raise to keep the pressure on the Mexican government to solve her murder, according to KABC.
Investigators have told Bruce Beresford-Redmond that he cannot leave Mexico.
