Police probe workplace death of newborn hidden under woman's desk

REDFORD, Mich. - Police are investigating the death of a newborn child whose body was found in a bag under the mother's desk at a business in Michigan, reports CBS Detroit.

Police and rescue units Tuesday morning responded to CEVA Logistics, a supply chain company in the Detroit suburb of Redford, and discovered that the child had been delivered in a bathroom there, according to the station.

The mother and newborn child were taken to a local hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

Reports say the woman is a 26-year-old from Wyandotte who apparently hid her pregnancy -- at least from her co-workers. Police haven't released the name of woman, and it's unclear if she will face charges.

According to reports, police were called to the business after employees apparently found a large amount of blood in the bathroom. Blood was also allegedly found on the mother, who had returned to work at her cubicle with the baby in a bag beneath her desk.

It's not clear if the baby was born alive. Autopsy results are pending.

Investigators declined to discuss specific details and employees at the business refused comment, reports CBS Detroit.
