McCain Joined by Former Bronco Greats in Colorado

(CBS)
From CBS News' John Bentley:

(DENVER) – The football metaphors were flying fast and furious today as former Denver Broncos greats John Lynch and John Elway introduced John McCain at a rally here. The former Broncos quarterback invoked his penchant for late game heroics in his introduction of McCain.

"Senator, it's the 4th quarter, and some pundits I watch on TV are already counting you out, but I know a thing or two about comebacks," said Elway to cheers from the hometown crowd. "I cannot wait until November 4th when you once again prove the pundits wrong and are elected the next president of the United States."

It's not just the pundits that are saying McCain could have a tough time in Colorado, though, it's the polls as well. Virtually every poll in the state has Barack Obama ahead by five points or more, and it doesn't look like campaign ads are going to be the method by which McCain stages a late-game comeback.

The McCain campaign itself has cut the number of ads they're running on television here. With a week and a half before Election Day, it's not too late for 4th quarter heroics, but the clock is ticking.
