Police: Man swings hatchet in Texas Wal-Mart, injures three

MARSHALL, Texas - Three people were wounded in a hatchet attack at a Wal-Mart in East Texas and police have arrested a transient from western Arkansas on assault charges.

According to CBS affiliate KSLA, 27-year-old Christopher Hamilton swung a hatchet at shoppers at a Marshall Wal-Mart early Sunday morning.

Police said two female workers and a male shopper were hurt. One employee remains hospitalized.

Hamilton reportedly fled the scene into a wooded area, and was found soon after and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Detective Sonya Johnson says police are seeking a motive in the attack. Johnson says Hamilton, of Crawford, Ark., had the hatchet with him when entering the store and didn't know the victims. Their names and details of their condition weren't released.

Hamilton’s bond was set to $225,000.
