Magnotta, 29, is wanted by Canadian authorities on first-degree murder and other charges. Police have identified the victim as 33-year-old Chinese university student Jun Lin, according to The Associated Press.

Interpol placed Magnotta on the equivalent of its most-wanted list. Police believe he fled to France on May 26.

An official in the Paris office, speaking on condition of anonymity because of office policy, said Sunday that police were looking into the alleged sightings in northwest Paris but had no additional details.

Police said Magnotta is also known by the names Eric Clinton Newman and Vladimir Romanov, and described him as white and 5 feet 8 inches tall (1.78 meters) with blue eyes and black hair. A police official said he was a porn actor.
