London overtakes New York as top fashion capital, survey says
(CBS) Move over, New York - London is now the fashion capital of the world.
According to a survey by the Texas-based media analytics company Global Language Monitor, London earned the top spot, a position New York has held for several years, in 2011 due to a strong media presence fueled by Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Alexander McQueen, which is the label Kate wore on her April 29 royal wedding.

"We are seeing what the impact of two genuine media stars, Princess Kate and Alexander McQueen can have upon a global ranking. Our numbers show that it was their presence that tipped the victory to London over New York," Bekka Payack, of the Global Language Monitor, said Tuesday.
Paris placed third this year, followed by Milan and Los Angeles, while Berlin and Singapore were ranked in the top ten for the first time.
The eight-year-old list is based on system that tracks the frequency of words, phrases and concepts on the Internet, blogosphere, and print, electronic and social media.
