TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (CBS/WLFI) Police in northwest Indiana are investigating an incident that left a young woman by the side of a road early Saturday morning.

Family members confirmed on Friday that the woman is 18-year-old Katie Riehle, who was in a medically induced coma at a local hospital.

According to CBS affiliate WLFI, police  were called around 5:30 a.m. Saturday after a passerby reported a woman lying by the road.

Riehle's sister, 26-year-old Niccole Peterson, said a friend drove by the family's house early Sunday morning and saw a young man with a crow bar trying to get into Riehle's car and the home. Peterson says that the friend called police and the young man was arrested.

WLFI confirmed with the sheriff's department that the young man, Ryan Fisher, was booked into the county jail on preliminary charges of auto theft, resisting arrest, and trespassing.

It is unclear what relationship he may have had with Riehle, if any.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department is actively investigating what may have happened to Riehle and hasn't classified the incident.
