(CBS) The Duchess of Cambridge surprised London shoppers earlier this week when she popped into Topshop for a bit of retail therapy.

The former Kate Middleton was spotted at the trendy British chain's Kensington High Street location, a short walk from her and Prince William's London home base of Kensington Palace.

According to reports, the duchess patiently waited in line to pay for $170 worth of items - a teal pencil skirt with black polka dots, a cobalt-blue boucle jacket with velvet trim and a pair of feather-style earrings.

A blogger for the fan website Get What Kate Wore excitedly recounted the sighting, adding that she saw the duchess sift through the rewards cards in her wallet while trying to find her credit card.

"Can you believe the future Queen of England carries a huge handful of rewards cards?" she wrote. "I love you Kate for being so normal!"
