(CBS News) Jaleel White is back in the spotlight thanks to his stint on "Dancing with the Stars," and that new attention has now brought on reports of some behind-the-scenes bad behavior.

The former "Family Matters" star says reports that he went off on a tirade against professional partner, Kym Johnson, are "completely exaggerated," according to People.

Us Weekly reports White "flipped out" at Johnson after he accidently stepped on her foot during Friday's rehearsals.

A source told the magazine that when Johnson exclaimed "ouch," White "got in her face," called her an "idiot" and "started going off on the producers and shouting about how they put him with a 'stupid' partner."

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver and dancing pro Mark Ballas then tried to intervene, and White allegedly told Ballas, "You remind me of that annoying sitcom neighbor who gets into everyone's business!"

"The producers stepped in and broke it up before it got physical, but they were really going at it - right up in each other's faces!" the source said.

While White downplayed the drama, a source told People that the actor was "definitely out of line."

"It basically didn't have anything to do with Kym or her foot - he was just stressed out and ready to snap," the source said, adding, "Both Mark and Donald wound up having words with him, mostly trying to get him to realize that he needed to just get a grip already."

When asked about the altercation, Ballas told People, "These things happen. This show is a competitive show. Things get heated. ... This got severely twisted. We've been in the same room all night, and everything's fine."

White and Johnson earned a score of 25 for their rumba during Monday night's show.
