Industry Moves: Former 'Blue Shirt' Dunn Makes It To Best Buy CEO; Promotion Due In June

As Circuit City dissolves, Best Buy evolves. The company announced today that Brian Dunn, who started with the chain in 1985 as an associate and has been president and COO since 2006, will take over as CEO on June 24 following the retirement of Bradbury Anderson. Anderson will continue as vice chairman through the end of his term. Dunn will be appointed to the board initially, then will be up for election in 2010. If all goes as planned, he will be only the third Best Buy CEO; Anderson, who followed founder Richard Schulze, served for seven years. The Minnesota-based chain had only a dozen stores when Dunn started in 1985; it now has more than 1,000 stores in the U.S.and Dunn is in charge of them, as well as the Geek Squad and various other functions.
