Human skull found in canal at Fla. golf course, report says

(CBS/AP) MARGATE, Fla. - Authorities are searching for clues about a human skull found near the ninth hole of a South Florida golf course.

Margate Police say divers doing maintenance on an irrigation line Monday found the skull in a clay pot in a canal at the Oriole Executive Golf Course.

Police say the pot was found in water between 10 and 15 feet deep.

According to CBS Miami, detectives are treating the case as a homicide investigation, but said there is a possibility that the skull was acquired for religious ritualistic purposes.

The skull has been sent to the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office.

The station reports, details on the sex, race and age of the human skull are unknown.
