Holiday movie preview: Blockbusters and awards-hopefuls coming to theaters

It's the most wonderful time of the year, when days are merry and bright -- and theaters are filled with moviegoers.

Yes, with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" opening on Friday, it seems that holiday movie season is officially upon us.

From blockbusters to awards-worthy fare, there's plenty to see as we enter the final weeks of 2013.

Along with returning to "The Hunger Games" universe with Katniss, Peeta and Gale, there's also another trip to Middle Earth in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug." Or, hang out with Ron Burgundy and his news team again in the sequel to "Anchorman." And bring the family along for the Disney animated feature "Frozen."

Holiday time is also loaded with Oscar bait, among them Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street," the Tom Hanks-starring "Saving Mr. Banks," Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and the star-studded ensemble assembled for "August: Osage County."
