Hillary Clinton's transition team announced by John Podesta
Former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, former national security adviser Tom Donilon and former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm are among those selected to lead Hillary Clinton's transition team, her campaign chairman John Podesta announced Tuesday.
"These individuals, who bring a deep level of experience in the work of presidential transitions, will help us build a team that is ready to govern after the general election," Podesta said in a statement.
Salazar, who served as President Obama's Interior Secretary between 2009 and 2013, will serve as the chairman of the Clinton-Kaine Transition Project. The team will also include Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden and the director of Harvard University's Institute of Politics, Maggie Williams.
Podesta, who was one of the co-chairs of President Obama's transition in 2008, said Clinton's team will oversee the campaign's operations in Washington, D.C. to transition to the White House if Clinton is elected in November. As a result of a 2010 law, the Obama administration will host initial transition planning meetings with both Clinton's and Donald Trump's presidential campaigns, the campaign said.
Before joining the Obama administration, Salazar served in the Senate, representing Colorado, where he had previously served as attorney general.
The team includes veterans of Mr. Obama's transition--Granholm served on the White House transition team in 2008, and Donilon headed the State Department transition when Mr. Obama was elected in 2008. Donilon then served as Mr. Obama's top national security adviser and was also in President Bill Clinton's administration as an assistant secretary of state.
Granholm, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention last month, served as Michigan's governor and as the co-chair of Clinton super PAC Priorities USA Action. She has since served as a senior adviser to Correct the Record, another group aligned with Clinton.
Tanden served as the policy director for Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, and previously worked as Clinton's legislative director in the Senate.
Williams has known Clinton for decades--she was Clinton's campaign manager for her 2008 presidential campaign and earlier served as Clinton's chief of staff, among other roles, when she was first lady.
