Herman Cain pitches 9-9-9 plan to Trump

NEW YORK -- Republican Herman Cain on Monday became the latest presidential candidate to meet with Donald Trump - and Cain said later that the real estate mogul was receptive to his pitch.

"He likes my 9-9-9 plan," Cain said after the meeting, referring to his proposal to eliminate the current tax system and replace it with a 9 percent personal income tax, a 9 percent corporate income tax and a 9 percent national sales tax.

The former Godfather's Pizza executive said he talked with Trump about how his plan will improve relations with China and other countries. "As you know, (Trump) has been very, very critical about how China is taking advantage of the United States because of some the cost of their goods. 9-9-9 basically levels that playing field," he said.

Trump, who flirted with running for presidential himself, did not comment on the meeting. He has said he's flattered the candidates are reaching out to him and wants to look over the field before deciding whom to endorse. He has criticized Jon Huntsman, saying he felt no need to meet with the moderate former Utah governor because he said he would never win the nomination.

The meeting with Trump was the latest high-profile appearance for Cain since winning last month's Florida straw poll. He chatted on Friday with Jay Leno on the "Tonight Show," and said Monday that his schedule has quickened considerably.

"I can't tell you where I am going to be two weeks from now," he said. "I can hardly tell you where I am going to be two days from now at this particular point, because things are moving that fast. But it is a good thing."
