HBO renews "The Newsroom" and "True Blood"

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - HBO is giving "The Newsroom" and "True Blood" another season each.

The network announced Monday that "True Blood" will be coming back for a sixth season next year. Its stars include Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer.

The upcoming season will be the hit vampire drama's first without creator Alan Ball acting as showrunner, TVLine notes. Ball is working on new shows for HBO and Cinemax, but will remain an executive producer on "True Blood."

"The Newsroom," created and written by Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin, won a green light for a second season after just two episodes have aired. Though its received mixed reviews from critics, the show attracted a healthy audience for its premiere, totaling 2.1 million viewers.

Set at a cable news network, "The Newsroom" features Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill and Sam Waterston.
