"Good Wife" Actress Had Run-In With Essex House Slay Suspect

Screen grab: Makenzie Vega in "The Good Wife" on CBS.

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Teen actress Makenzie Vega was staying at an upscale Manhattan hotel, the Jumeriah Essex House, when a brutal killing occurred - and may have nearly avoided being a victim herself.

A housekeeping manager at the Essex House, Derrick Praileu, is charged with strangling and stabbing Andree "Sara" Bejjani, a condo resident, early Saturday. Praileu is being held without bail on a second-degree murder charge.

Vega, 15, who appears in the CBS drama "The Good Wife," told the Daily News that her room was directly above the crime scene.

On Friday night, she called housekeeping to ask if her phone had been accidentally removed with bedding. She said a man invited her to take a look in the basement; she didn't go.

Her mother, Gina Vega, called it "really scary."

The family also recalled the suspect inspecting their room when they checked in last month.
