Girl, 7, finds alleged thief asleep in family car on driveway

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- A Massachusetts man says his 7-year-old daughter on the way to school found a suspected burglar asleep in the backseat of the family car.

Attleboro resident Danny Carlson says his daughter found the 30-year-old man in the vehicle on their driveway around 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Police believe the alleged thief, Paul Johnson, 30, of Attleboro, was exhausted from an overnight crime spree, reports CBS Boston.

"She noticed a drunk passenger in the back that didn't belong there some stranger, ran inside told her mom and her mom comes and tells me and my reaction go to the phone and call police," the girl's father, Danny Carlton said.

Carlson says police struggled to wake the man. He says police found the man had taken some of his credit cards, as well as items from his neighbor's vehicle.

He says the suspected robber also had items of no value including a dirty baseball cap, a toothbrush and fake jewelry.

The man has been charged with breaking and entering, credit card larceny, larceny over $250 and trespassing.

Johnson allegedly told police he'd been drinking at a local bar.

Carlton's neighbor, Lucas Franco, was somewhat amazed at Carlton's calm restraint. "I told Danny he took it a lot better than I would have if I found someone in my car," Franco remarked to CBS Boston.
