Ex-NBA star Javaris Crittenton takes plea in murder case

ATLANTA -- Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton was sentenced to 23 years in prison after accepting a plea deal Wednesday, reports CBS affiliate WGCL.

Crittenton is accused of killing 22-year-old Jullian Jones on Aug. 19, 2011.

Police said Crittenton and his cousin, Douglas Gamble, were trying to get revenge against a man he believed robbed him of his jewelry and iPhone.

Jones, a mother of four, was not the intended target. She was walking with friends in southwest Atlanta when gunfire rained down.

Crittenton was drafted by the Lakers as the 19th overall pick in 2007.

He played for the Washington Wizards in December 2009, where he and teammate Gilbert Arenas were involved in a locker room incident where guns were pulled.

In 2010, he plead guilty to a misdemeanor gun possession charge.

In January 2014, he was indicted on a drug charge while out on bond for murder.
