Filmmakers come to Keira Knightley's defense after "Begin Again" director slam

Keira Knightley could be forgiven for feeling a bit defensive following director John Carney's harsh comments about his experiences working with her on 2013's "Begin Again," but at least she has a lot of friends in her corner.

Other filmmakers are taking the time to make it clear they don't agree in the slightest with Carney, who referred to Knightley dismissively as a "supermodel" during a chat with the Independent.

"I didn't enjoy that experience of paparazzi and fabulous openings," Carney said. "The movie star world is not something that ever appealed to me. I like working with actors. ... Keira has an entourage that follow her everywhere so it's very hard to get any real work done."

"I don't want to rubbish Keira, but you know it's hard being a film actor and it requires a certain level of honesty and self-analysis that I don't think she's ready for yet and I certainly don't think she was ready for on that film," he said. And Lynn Shelton, who directed 2014's "Laggies," also had something to say on the matter:

And it wasn't just former collaborators who came to Knightley's defense:
