Missing Ill. teen who texted "help" found safe

HERRIN, Ill. -- An Illinois teen whose disappearance drew the national spotlight after she texted "help" to her family has been found safe, according to the Herrin Police Department.

Delia Ann Stacey of Herrin vanished Dec. 28 after leaving her family's home on foot to meet a friend, according to the department. Family received the text from her phone later that day reading only, "Help," police say. After that, they weren't able to get in contact with her.

Herrin police say Stacey was located Monday in Chicago. They say the 18-year-old called her mother to tell her she was safe. A Chicago Police patrolman located the teen and confirmed her identity, and she told the officer she didn't need police assistance.

It wasn't clear why Stacey texted "help" to her family. Herrin police say she's not cooperating in their investigation.
