Train derails in downtown Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON - A train has derailed in a tunnel in downtown Washington but officials say there are no injuries. The city's Metro rail system said in a tweet that the derailment happened around 6:40 a.m. Monday outside Farragut North station. At just after 8:15 a.m. Metro tweeted that all passengers on the train had been evacuated and there were no injuries.
CBS affiliate WUSA-9 spoke to one woman who was on the train at the time. She said she felt a bump before the train stopped, and then the train car filled with smoke. She also said after it stopped, passengers were stuck on the train for about two hours.
Meanwhile, the incident resulted in delays on the Red Line in both directions. Bus shuttles bridged several stations, including Dupont Circle, Farragut North and Metro Center.
