Daniel Day-Lewis thanks "Obama chair" in BAFTA speech
Daniel Day-Lewis poked fun at Clint Eastwood's "Obama chair" in his acceptance speech for the Stanley Kubrick Britannia award for Excellence in Film on Wednesday night at the 2012 BAFTA Britannia Awards.
After an introduction from filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Day-Lewis walked onto the stage with a chair in-hand.
"I have to say that I am extremely grateful and glad, taking time out of his very busy schedule, that the recently re-elected president of this country was able to make it here tonight, thank you," Day-Lewis joked as he turned to the chair and clapped.
Day-Lewis told the crowd that the Eastwood chair stunt at the Republican National Convention, seemed be a challenge he wanted to rise to.
"When I saw him [Eastwood] talking to a chair in a room full of strangers, I thought, 'I've got to try that. That's a challenge.' I didn't pull it off quite as well as him, but anyhow," said the actor.
Day-Lewis stars in Spielberg's "Lincoln," which is out in theaters now.
The award show is set to air on BBC America on Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. ET.
