Dad in Dallas defends daughters, scares off gunman
DALLAS – A father fought off a gunman attempting to rob him in front of his children on Monday in the latest incident of driveway robberies in east Dallas, reports CBS DFW.
“A guy came walking toward me from the sidewalk… big guy, dressed in black,” said Chris Kuhner, who had just pulled into his home driveway with his twin six-year-old daughters.
“The robber came up to Daddy and he said, ‘Give me your wallet,’” said one of Kuhner’s daughters.
Kuhner, a lawyer in Dallas, wasn’t carrying a wallet and worried how the man – who was carrying a gun – would respond.
“I wasn’t going to let him in my house, or go in my house and get my wallet for him, because my child was still in the car,” said Kuhner, who decided to fight back instead. “I kind of reached out and touched his gun hand and at that point he backed off and jumped back into… there was a black SUV.”
CBS DFW has documented over 30 driveway robberies since the beginning of 2014, with the majority occurring in east Dallas. At least one has been captured by security camera.
Married couple Cristina and Michael Nicholson, neighbors of the Kuhners, say they are taking extra precautions.
“It doesn’t feel safe right now,” Michael Nicholson said. “People shouldn’t have to live in fear of this happening to them.”
The varying suspect descriptions and weapons used have made it difficult to tie the robberies together, though there are similarities in some cases.
CBS DFW reports local police have not responded to the station's repeated questions about the attacks.
