Cory Booker on schools, Facebook and his own BFF

Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker drew national attention a year ago after Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg promised him $100 million to improve his city's schools.

But what many people may not know about Booker is that he has "friended" "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King.

When asked by co-host Charlie Rose on Wednesday's broadcast whether the two have a "special relationship,"  Booker was about to reply when King said, "What is our special -- go ahead, Cory, full disclosure. Let's give them something to talk about."

Booker said, "You know, Gayle is probably one of the seminal forces of friendship in my life. She's amazing. In fact, before the first time she was doing this show (hosting 'CBS This Morning'), we were up probably too late, until midnight, hanging out."

When Rose asked what that meant, King said, "Hanging out... It's not hooking up, Charlie. No boinking has occurred. No boinking has occurred. We're really good friends."

Booker said, "There's one prayer. I'll say this real quick: God grant me at least one friend that really knows me and is still my friend anyway. And that's the kind of friend Gayle is."

In addition to his friendship with King, Booker also discussed the changes to Newark's schools that have come with the Facebook funds, the Obama administration's leadership during the economic downturn, as well as the possibility of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg running for governor against incumbent Gov. Chris Christie. For all of that discussion and more, check out the video in the player above.
