"Community," "Homeland" win top honors at the Critics' Choice TV Awards

(CBS News) "Community" and "Homeland" won big at Monday night's 2012 Critics' Choice Awards, winning honors for best comedy series and best drama series respectively.

Bryan Cranston took home the best actor in a drama series award for "Breaking Bad" and Claire Danes won for best actress in a drama series for "Homeland." In comedy, Louis C.K. won best actor for "Louie" and both Amy Poehler and Zooey Deschanel tied in the best actress category for "Parks and Recreation" and "New Girl."

The network with the most awards at the end of the night was NBC with five wins. AMC and ABC followed with three wins each.

The critics also selected shows for its most exciting new series category, with "The Mindy Project," "Nashville," "The Following," "The Newsroom," and "Political Animals" all making the list.

The award ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. The winners were chosen by members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association.

Best reality series competition - "The Voice," NBC

Best reality show host - (tie) Tom Bergeron, "Dancing With the Stars," ABC; Cat Deeley, "So You Think You Can Dance," Fox

Best talk show - "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," NBC

Best comedy series - "Community," NBC

Best actor in a comedy series - Louis C.K., "Louie," FX

Best actress in a comedy series - (tie) Zooey Deschanel, "New Girl," Fox; Amy Poehler, "Parks and Recreation," NBC

Best supporting actor in a comedy series - Ty Burrell,"Modern Family," ABC
