Celebrating the extraordinary life and career of Lane Venardos

Lane Venardos was fondly remembered Wednesday in a moving service at the Paley Center in New York City. A remarkable testament to a life and career that transcended networks and platforms, Lane's memorial was attended by more than 200 luminaries from across the television industry, including Jeff Fager, David Rhodes, Charles Osgood, Scott Pelley, Bob Schieffer, Lesley Stahl, Rita Braver, Diane Sawyer, Brian Williams, Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews (CBS News' current "Lane Venardos"), Rand Morrison, Pat Shevlin, Susan Zirinsky, Al Berman, Steve Capus, Rome Hartman, Andrew Heyward, Rick Kaplan, Jim Murphy.

Remembering Lane Venardos: 1944-2011

The speakers--Jeff Fager, Howard Stringer (via video), Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Brian Williams, Al Berman, his daughter Kelly Venardos, and Peter J. Ward--each shared personal memories (including several choice "Lane-isms") of the man and the impact he made on their lives and on the industry as a whole. Susan Zirinsky presented a humorous and touching video tribute, and the service concluded with a vocal solo performed by Lane's son, Kevin.
