CBS announces summer 2014 schedule

Who says the summers are for reruns?

CBS unveiled its summer 2014 broadcast schedule on Tuesday, with new shows and familiar favorites on this year's rooster.

"Big Brother" will be making an early return for the second summer in a row, with season 16 kicking off Wednesday, June 25 at 8 p.m. ET. Hosted by Julie Chen, the popular reality series will be airing three nights a week, with Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday installments. The first eviction will take place on Thursday, July 3.

Last summer's most-watched program, "Under the Dome," is also back with new episodes. Stephen King, who wrote the best-selling novel on which the series is based, penned the script for the show's sophomore season premiere, airing Monday, June 30 at 10 p.m. ET.

Another show to look out for is "Unforgettable," returning with its season 3 premiere on Sunday, June 29 at 10 p.m. ET.

The debut episode of "Reckless" will also air on June 29 in the 9 p.m. ET time-slot. The new legal drama is set in Charleston, S.C., and centers around two lawyers (Cam Gigandet, Anna Wood) who have to hide their mutual attraction for each other in the face of a massive police scandal.

Halle Berry is starring in the new series, "Extant," a mystery thriller about an astronaut who tries to re-establish ties with her family after spending a year in space. Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim also star. Steven Spielberg serves as one of the executive producers. The series will premiere Wednesday, July 9 at 9 p.m. ET.
