California police hunt man suspected of killing small dog

LOS ANGELES -- Detectives who investigate animal cruelty are seeking the public's help in tracking down a man wanted for allegedly killing a small dog, reports CBS Los Angeles.

A witness told Los Angeles police the man chased the dog after it jumped out of his Dodge Caravan at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. When he caught the dog, he allegedly punched it and threw it onto the sidewalk several times until it died, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man then returned to his car and fled from the location, leaving the dead animal behind.

Authorities said the witness photographed the vehicle -- a 1996 to 2000 silver or gray Caravan that has an off-color rear bumper.

Detectives described the suspect as a Caucasian man who is believed to be between the ages of 50 and 60, weighs around 280 pounds, stands no taller than 6 feet, two inches tall and has balding gray hair.

Anyone who may see the suspect's vehicle should notify the Los Angeles Police Department's Animal Cruelty Task Force at (213) 486-0450.
