Buzz Briefs: Gillian Anderson, Waterfalls

It's A Boy For "The X-Files'" Gillian Anderson

Gillian Anderson, star of "The X-Files" TV series and movies, and her boyfriend Mark Griffiths, are the parents of a baby boy named Felix.

Anderson's manager, Connie Freiberg, said the baby was born Oct. 15 in London. Felix is the second child for Anderson, 40, and Griffiths, a British businessman. Their son Oscar will be 2 years old next month.

Freiberg said Anderson didn't name the boys after characters from the classic comedy television comedy, "The Odd Couple," featuring two men named Oscar and Felix.

Freiberg said Anderson, who has a 14-year-old daughter Piper from her marriage to production designer Clyde Klotz, is "happy as you can be."

Anderson co-stars in the comedy "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People," and recently starred in "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," the second feature film spun off from the Fox TV series.

"Waterfalls" Had $69 Million Impact On NYC

Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson's "Waterfalls" project has brought in an estimated $69 million for New York City and drew 1.4 million visitors.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the four waterfalls in the East River exceeded initial financial expectations of $55 million. The work appeared from June 26 to Oct. 13.

The project was the city's largest public art endeavor since 2005 when artist Christo's "Gates" hung 23 miles of Central Park footpaths with thousands of saffron drapes.

More than 5 million people saw "Gates," including about 1.5 million out-of-town visitors.

Hulk Hogan's Son Released From Fla. Jail

The 18-year-old son of Hulk Hogan has been released from jail in Florida after serving five months for causing a serious traffic crash.

Nick Bollea was released from the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday morning. He had pleaded no contest in May to causing the crash.

Bollea was arrested last year after authorities say he sped on a busy street and crashed his father's car, leaving a friend and former Marine permanently disabled.

Bollea could have faced five years in prison, but the victim's family requested a lesser sentence.

Bollea's mother, Linda, released a statement Tuesday asking for privacy. She says Nick went into prison as a juvenile and has experienced something that will mold and affect him for the rest of his adult life.

'70s Comedian Rudy Ray Moore Dies

Rudy Ray Moore, a raunchy 1970s comedian who played the title role of a flashy pimp in the movie "Dolemite' and influenced a generation of rappers, has died. He was 81.

Moore died Sunday evening at an Akron nursing home from complications of diabetes, said his brother, Gerald Moore.

Moore was part of the heyday of black "party records." His stage personality featured blunt sex routines but, unlike contemporaries Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor, he never crossed over to mainstream white audiences.

The Washington Post said in a 1992 profile that Moore was "an astounding renderer of 'toasts,' - elaborately boastful, profane and scatological tales of life in the old-style urban subculture of pimps, prostitutes, gamblers and badmen. His husky, down-home voice is ideal for it."

Moore said he developed the style, later a feature of rap music, by listening to men sitting outside joints "drinking beer and lying and talking (expletive)."

Moore played the fast-talking pimp and title character in the 1975 film "Dolemite." In later years Moore collaborated with 2 Live Crew, Big Daddy Kane and Snoop Dogg.

Moore's other acting credits during the "Blaxploitation" era of black action films included "The Human Tornado" in 1976 and "Disco Godfather" in 1979.

Guns N' Roses Blogger Pleads Not Guilty

A blogger accused of leaking songs from the long-delayed Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" has pleaded not guilty to violating federal copyright laws.

Kevin Cogill appeared Monday morning in federal court in Los Angeles and entered the plea.

Federal authorities say Cogill posted nine unreleased Guns N' Roses songs on his Web site in June. The songs were later removed.

The album has been 10 years in the making.

If convicted, Cogill faces up to three years in prison - possibly more if prosecutors prove the 27-year-old did it for financial gain.

Biden Tells Ellen He'd Oppose Calif. Gay Marriage Ban

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joseph Biden says if he lived in California, he would vote against a ballot measure that seeks to ban gay marriage.

During an appearance Monday on the "Ellen" show, Biden called Proposition 8 "regressive" and "unfair" and added that he and running mate Barack Obama opposed a similar initiative nationally.

Biden was responding to a question by the show's host, Ellen DeGeneres, who is gay and has urged California voters to oppose Proposition 8.

DeGeneres married actress Portia de Rossi in August.

Biden previously has said he supports partnership rights for gays and lesbians although he is opposed to same-sex marriage.

"Transformers" Ride To Be Created In Singapore, Hollywood

Giant robots are heading for Hollywood and Singapore.

A new theme-park ride based on the hit movie "Transformers" is being developed for Universal Studios, the company announced Monday.

The new rides, scheduled to debut in 2011, incorporate robotics and 3-D, high-definition technology.

Hasbro Inc. and DreamWorks Pictures are helping to create the new ride, and "Transformers" director Michael Bay and producer Steven Spielberg will consult on the its development, said Tom Williams, chairman and chief executive of Universal Parks & Resorts.

The ride, like the film, shows humans caught in an intergalactic war between armies of giant robots that can change into cars, planes and other technological creations.
