Brightcove, the online video services company which has been quiet for some time now, has launched a new Japanese company Brightcove KK in which it owns a majority. The funding was led by Dentsu, J-Stream, previous investor Transcosmos, and Cyber Communications, with money pitched in by Brightcove as well, for a total of about $4.9 million in the new company. Dentsu the biggest ad agency in Japan; J-Stream is a streaming media CDN provider there; CCI is a big online ad network and Transcosmos is a digital media holding company with investments in many U.S. digital media companies such as Buzzlogic, Meez, Multiply and others.

Brightcove, founded by Jeremy Allaire, has slowly moved away from consumer services, and is now completely focused on providing online video services to media companies. This new company, based in Tokyo, will help it expand and offer online video service, distribution, and advertising in Japan with the help of these new investors and partners.
