Bradley Cooper to make directorial debut with "A Star Is Born" remake

Bradley Cooper's latest role? Director.

The "American Sniper" star is in talks to make his feature directorial debut with a remake of "A Star Is Born," Deadline reported Tuesday.

The long-gestating Warner Bros. film previously had Clint Eastwood attached to direct. At one point, Beyonce was set to star as the female lead - though she hasn't yet been re-approached formally about the role.

According to Deadline, it's hoped that Cooper will star in the project, on which he's also a producer.

"A Star Is Born," about a movie star who helps a young actress find fame even as age and alcoholism send his career into a downward spiral, was first made in 1937 with Fredrick March and Janet Gaynor. It's since been remade twice -- in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976 with Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand.

Cooper earned an Oscar nomination earlier this year for his work in "American Sniper," and is currently performing "The Elephant Man" in its London transfer from Broadway.
