"Birdman," "Into the Woods" win at 2015 Costume Designers Guild Awards

"Birdman," "Into the Woods" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" were among the winners at the 17th Costume Designers Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Milena Canonero, who worked on costumes for "The Grand Budapest Hotel," walked away with the period film honor, while Albert Wolsky of "Birdman" won the contemporary honor.

"Into the Woods" designer Colleen Atwood received the award for fantasy film.

Atwood recently told CBS News about her vision for "Into the Woods," saying, "I went into it as a blank slate -- I hadn't really seen the stage musical, other than on historical videotapes, so I knew the music but not the visuals so much. But I do remember how much everyone loved it -- I lived in New York when it was playing but I was not, in those years, able to afford a ticket [laughs]."

Hosted by actress Emmy Rossum at the Beverly Hilton hotel, the awards ceremony also saw Naomi Watts receiving the Lacoste Spotlight Award -- presented by Laura Dern.

Patricia Arquette presented "Boyhood" director Richard Linklater with the distinguished collaborator trophy for his support of costume design.

"I'm here as a director to tell all costume designers, we're pretty full of ourselves, but I don't know one director who thinks they can be a costume designer," said Linklater, reports USA Today. "We are extraordinarily dependent and in awe of your talent."

Some of Tuesday's winners will compete for best costume design at the Oscars this Sunday. The nominees are Canonero for "The Grand Budapest Hotel," Atwood for "Into the Woods," Mark Bridges for "Inherent Vice," Anna B. Sheppard and Jane Clive for "Maleficent" and Jacqueline Durran for "Mr. Turner."

Television costume designers were honored, too, at the ceremony.
