Baby falls from 3rd-floor Boston apartment, lands on man below

BOSTON -- Police say a baby fell from a third-floor apartment deck and hit a tarp and man working behind the Boston building.

Authorities say the baby boy, who is between 1 and 2 years old, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday night after falling from a deck on the back of the building. The baby's injuries aren't life-threatening.

Pedro Martinez told CBS Boston that he was working behind the building when the baby fell and hit him.

"I think he hit me on the back, and I just felt something hit me and when I look back the baby was there," Martinez said. He said the baby was crying and bleeding.

Martinez said a tarp that had been put up for a cookout broke the baby's fall.

Officials say the balcony is not up to code, but that it did not contribute to the accident.

Police are investigating.
