(CBS) NEW ORLEANS -- Police are searching for a gunman they say shot and killed an 11-year-old girl and wounded two others in New Orleans early Monday, reports CBS affiliate WWLTV.

The death of Arabiana Gayles came four days after another New Orleans child, Londyn Samuels, 1, was gunned down in her babysitter's arms.

Police say Gayles died after bullets tore through her home around 12:15 a.m. Monday when a gunfight erupted outside. She was reportedly among several children and adults sleeping inside the home.

Gayles was struck in the head, according to authorities.

Another 11-year-old who was in the home, Paulreiona Cary, was wounded when she was shot in the hand and elbow.

"Imagine trying to hear news that your 11-year-old has been shot. 'What do you mean she's been shot?' You know what I mean. You're an 11-year-old," Paul Davis, Cary's father, told the station.

A 38-year-old family friend was also shot in the back, reports the station.

The community placed stuffed animals and flowers in front of the home Monday.

"I'm so angry I can't even imagine," Davis told the station. "I can't even describe it. I don't even know what I'm supposed to be feeling right now, you know."
