(CBS) EAST ORANGE, N.J. - Al-Muqqadin Means, the 18-year-old ex-boyfriend of an East Orange, N.J. prom queen found shot to death last Wednesday inside her home, has been arrested and charged with murder, NJ.com reports.

Means was arrested Monday afternoon in Newark and charged in the murder of 17-year-old Aquilla Flood, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced, according to CBS New York.

According to the station, a warrant for his arrest was issued last week. He is also charged with two weapons offenses.

Flood, a senior at Campus High School in East Orange, was scheduled to graduate this Saturday, Murray says, according to NJ.com.

Flood was reportedly recently voted prom queen at the high school and was supposed to receive her crown Thursday night. Instead, she will be buried Wednesday morning, the news site says.

A motive in the killing has not been made public, but the victim's mother, Nicole Flood, reportedly told the site that Means was upset after her daughter turned down his invitation to prom.

According to the site, criminal records show Means was arrested twice this year on charges of robbery, theft and conspiracy.

It is unclear if Means has retained an attorney.
