(CBS) - Amazon is readying a 7-inch tablet that could be launched in October, according to a report.

The website Digitimes, citing anonymous component sources, claims the Kindle maker will ship the 7-inch tablet in October and follow that with a 10.1-inch tablet to ship in the first quarter of 2012.

Rumors about Amazon tablets have been circulating for some time; reports of an October release for Android-powered Amazon tablets cropped up in July.

Forrester Research analyst Sarah Rotman Epps was bullish on Amazon's chances of success in the tablet space, reports CNET. In a blog post recently, she said that in just one year, "Amazon will be synonymous with Android on tablets."
