After Penn State child sex abuse scandal, The Citadel details its own sex abuse allegation

(CBS/WCSC) CHARLESTON, S.C. - In the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, a South Carolina military college has apologized for not digging deeper into an allegation against a camp councilor.

Police say thirty-two-year-old Louis Neal ReVille, an alumnus of The Citadel, confessed to sexually assaulting five teenage boys that he coached, CBS affiliate WCSC reports. He is charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of lewd acts on a minor. 

Citadel President Lt. Gen John W. Rosa and board of visitors chairman Doug Snyder released a statement Saturday about Reville, reports WCSC.

According to the statement, the school regrets not digging deeper into an incident that occurred in Reville's dorm room in 2002.

According to the statement, the college received an allegation in 2007 that five years earlier ReVille, a camp councilor, invited two campers at The Citadel Summer Camp into his room to watch pornography. They did not touch each other, but engaged in sexual activity, the statement says.

"Though the general counsel was unable to corroborate the accusation, the college continued its investigation with the camper's family, who made it clear they were very concerned about maintaining their privacy and not having their names publicized," Rosa and Snyder wrote in the statement.

"Despite the concerns of the family, whose right to privacy was foremost on our minds, we regret that we did not pursue this matter further," the statement reads.

ReVille has worked as assistant upper school principal at Coastal Christian Preparatory School. He also has been tennis coach at Bishop England High School.

Police in Hanahan, near Charleston, say they expect to bring six more charges ReVille.
