3rd suspect arrested in execution of Chicago boy, 9
CHICAGO -- A third suspect in the slaying of a 9-year-old Chicago boy who was lured from a playground into an alley and shot to death has been arrested in eastern Illinois.
Kevin Edwards was stopped for a traffic violation Saturday night in Vermilion County, about 150 miles south of Chicago, and arrested on charges of resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
Edwards is suspected of taking part in the Nov. 2, 2015 killing of Tyshawn Lee as part of what authorities say was a gang war involving the boy's father. They say the boy was killed in retaliation for the slaying of the brother of one of the three suspects.
Edwards was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over and fled on foot, reports CBS Chicago.
The station reports he was quickly apprehended by deputies. Police say he initially gave officers a false name. Investigators believe Edwards might have been in the area since January, using an assumed identity, the station reports.
Dwight Boone-Doty and Corey Morgan were already in custody. All have been charged with first-degree murder.
Authorities have said Boone-Doty initially planned to kill the boy's grandmother and torture the child.
