2 police officers shot during traffic stop in Georgia, police say

LAVONIA, Ga. – Two police officers were shot during a traffic stop in Lavonia, Georgia, Monday night, officials said. 

CBS affiliate WSPA reported one officer was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the hand and leg, Lavonia Chief Bruce Carlisle said. 

The suspect is currently in custody, but has not been identified, a spokesperson told CBS News. 

Both officers were taken to the hospital, their conditions are not currently known. 

The officers were arresting the driver after pulling over a stolen car when the shooting happened, according to Chief Carlisle, WSPA reported.
