2 NATO troops killed in Afghanistan ambush

(CBS/AP) KABUL, Afghanistan - Two service members with the international military coalition in Afghanistan were killed in an insurgent attack Wednesday, NATO said.

Coalition spokesperson Maj. Lori Hodges told CBS News that two International Security Assistance Force - Afghanistan (ISAF) service members were killed when their convoy came under attack by militants with small arms and rocket propelled grenades. One of the militants then detonated a suicide vest, she said.

NATO does not release the nationalities of slain troops until family can be notified, but Afghan sources tell CBS News the victims of the attack in Logar province were Americans.

So far this year, 285 NATO service members have been killed in Afghanistan.
