13-year-old boy accused in fatal shooting of girl, 12

JASPER, Mo. - A 13-year-old boy shot and killed a 12-year-old girl outside the Missouri foster home where they both lived, according to police.

Officers tried to revive the girl, Teresa J. Potts, but she died Thursday, Oct. 8, near the rural town of Jasper, which is about 130 miles south of Kansas City.

After shooting the girl, the suspect ran into nearby woods, where he was caught and arrested, police said. He had taken the gun used in the killing from the foster home, according to police.

The suspect was being held at a juvenile detention facility. Police expect to charge him soon.
