1 arrested, 2 wanted in deaths of 2 found burned in Texas fields

SAN ANTONIO -- Police have identified the bodies of a man and a woman found burned inside trash cans in two different fields near San Antonio earlier this month, reports CBS affiliate KENS.

On June 8, deputies responded to a cornfield fire in Medina County, Texas, where they located the charred remains of 31-year-old Traci Lemley. Nine days later, on June 17, the burned body of 33-year-old Jeremy Carrico was discovered in a field in Nueces County, Texas.

Police said Loribeth Martinez, 23, turned herself in Saturday in connection with the murders.

Martinez has been charged with murder and is being held on a $700,000 bond. Arrest warrants have been issued for two other individuals: Kristopher Sanchez, 34, and John Mendoza, 35.

The murders took place in San Antonio before both of the bodies were hauled off to the fields where they were burned, said Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown during a press conference Monday.

Sheriff Brown said investigators believe Lemley and Carrico were murdered in Martinez's apartment on June 7. Brown did not say exactly how they died.

"That level of violence is only compounded by things we know that happened," said Brown. "I'm not going to talk about today."

Brown offered an array of theories on possible motivations for the murders.

"You can choose from a couple of motives that we've learned," said Sheriff Brown. "One of them is drugs, gangs, and then the possibility of because of an affair the boyfriend was having with the victim."

If you have any information on the two suspects still on the loose contact the Medina County Sheriff's Office at (330) 725-0028 or call 911.
