Firefighters rescue 2 men from second floor of burning home in Ipswich
Two men were rescued by firefighters from the second floor of a burning home in Ipswich on Monday.
Crews arrived at Linebrook Road around 12 p.m. and saw flames coming from the front and back of the house. They rushed to save the two men who were trapped inside the home. One of them was an elderly man, according to officials.
"They had high heat, and zero visibility, and they went in and literally effected a rescue and saved their lives undoubtedly," said Ipswich Fire Chief Paul Parisi. He said that getting enough water to the home was an issue for crews due to a dead end water main.
One victim was treated on scene and taken to a nearby hospital, while the other refused treatment.
"When I saw the victim, he was conscious, and that's about all I can say," said Chief Parisi.
The names of the victims have not been released. Ipswich Fire says it does plan to celebrate the firefighters who rescued them when the time is right.
There is also a large horse barn on the property. Firefighters say the animals inside weren't impacted because the smoke flowed away from them. One person was bitten by a dog while on the scene of the fire and taken to the hospital. There is no more information about what led to the incident.
"I am not sure of the circumstances of the dog bite," details Chief Parisi.
Family in Ipswich fire remains OK
Nancy Smith lives nearby and knows the people who live there. She said they are very nice people and has reached out to the family, who told her that everyone was accounted for and OK.
"Nothing was on and she had no idea what started it, and I just told her 'Anything I can do for her, let me know,'" Smith explained.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
