White House: Job Market Remains in "Tough Recession"

(CBS)
A senior Obama administration economic advisor tells CBS News the latest unemployment numbers show that "the job market remains in the grips of a tough recession."

Jared Bernstein, chief economist for Vice President Biden, says the administration still expects unemployment to hit ten percent some time later this year. But he sees some glimmers of hope. In a radio interview with CBS News White House Correspondent Peter Maer, Bernstein said that aside from the big factory losses, the job reduction rate throughout the economy has "diminished somewhat over the past three months." But he acknowledged it is nowhere near satisfactory.

He contends administration economic stimulus efforts "are taking hold and helping to stabilize." But noting that stabilization won't be enough, Bernstein said, "We need to see that unemployment rate come down."

He refused to say when that would happen. Bernstein continues to predict the Recovery Act will add 3.5 million jobs to the economy next year. While he points to some signs of improvement, he notes "less bad is not good enough."

Asked about some economists’ predictions of a "jobless recovery," Bernstein said there could be a technical recovery in growth terms while the labor market continues to shrink. Bernstein said that would not be a true recovery.

Problems never seem to end for President Obama. The recession that the GOP deemed "to be only in our minds and the US economy was doing just fine" notion isn't setting well with the current job loss numbers.

The Republicans if they would have been allowed to stay in power wouldn't act at all on unemployment and would've continued their policies of (shock doctrine) destroying the viable American Dream and lifestyle of the Working (or, not working) Middle Class.

Why are the Republicans so much against everything the Democratic Party and President Obama are doing in attempt to revitalize the American Economy and the Working Middle Class?

Possibly, the Republican Grand Old People's Party desire to continue to create havoc, disaster, and turmoil in effort to maximize or CAPITALIZE on profits?

It has been said that tragic events move assets. The GOP is against HealthCare because catastrophic illness and banrupcy moves real estate and financial instruments.

War, creates revenues through contracts but all production is destroyed not allowing for the share of wealth.

Government Control and Regulation impedes the gaming of markets that have created an unfair atmosphere and advantage for unsuspecting investors.

Americans need to support what is in their own best interest and not continue to be bamboozled by the for-profit at any cost robber barons.

Your post was just plain stupid. It's sad how dumb the American people have become.

Didn't you say the same during the Presidential Campaign a year ago?
