Obama Brings A Bit Of Hawaii To Washington

(CBS)
It may be the most irresistible event in Washington since the Inauguration.

President Obama is bringing a bit of his Hawaii birthplace to the South Lawn of the White House this evening, staging a luau for members of Congress and their families.

The White House residence staff spent the day putting up Tiki huts and torches on the grounds of the executive mansion, pictured left.

But what will make the evening irresistible to a political crowd is the chance to drop White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel into a tank of water.

A spokesman says the luau will feature a dunk tank and Emanuel will be one of three senior presidential advisors to take a turn at getting a soaking. He'll be joined by press secretary Robert Gibbs and congressional liaison Phil Schilero.

Emanuel, known for his hardball approach to politics and profanity-laced rhetoric, is sure to draw a long line of would-be dunkers.

The food will include traditional Hawaiian fare.

"You know, the chefs have been working pretty hard on this whole luau theme," said Mr. Obama this morning, pictured left with the First Lady Michelle Obama this morning. But he was quick to add, "I don't think we're gonna have an actual pig on a spit."

First Lady Michelle Obama was excited about this evening's soiree as well.

"We've got a great picnic planned," she told an audience of volunteers at a United We Serve project this morning at Fort McNair. She, Mr. Obama, and her daughter Sasha are seen participating in the community service initiative.

She said they'll even have some hula dancers performing at the luau, and then gave her arms and hips a little hula shake as if to demonstrate what's in store.

"Try that again," said Mr. Obama, both surprised and impressed with his wife's moves.

She obliged and gave her arms and hips another back and forth, without benefit of a grass skirt. The audience burst into laughter and applause.

This evening's event will also feature hula lessons, Polynesian dancers and fire blowers. A DJ will not only play Hawaiian music, but also the Beach Boys and Elvis. And all 2,000 guests will be presented with plastic leis.

It's become a presidential tradition to host an evening picnic for congressional families at this time of year. Most of former President George W. Bush's gatherings had a country-western theme. The Oak Ridge Boys performed at last year's event on June 5.

Who pays for the partying? A White House spokesman said that "as in past years," the White House covers the cost. That means all of us taxpayers.

So Rahm Emanuel is not the only one getting soaked tonight.

No need complaining about this. We are just getting a taste of socialism as it really is. While the average family is struggling to make ends meet, the elite have elaborate parties, expensive trips, and lavish dinners.
This is the true redistribution of wealth under our new communist system. The politically favored will get to live extravagently while we peons just toil away as the perpetual middle class.

STATEMENT FROM LT COLONEL ALAN WEST

I have sat and watched the situation in Iran post the fraudulent elections and just shake my head. When I departed Kandahar Afghanistan in late October 2007 my Interpreter/Translator staff asked of me one thing, "do not forget us". I looked each of those young Men in the eye and gave them my commitment. The covenant was simple, that in my lifetime I would seek to free Afghanistan from the tyranny of mullahs, clerics, imams, and bloodthirsty terrorists.

I never break a promise.

I will not "bear witness" to this demonic display of inhuman treatment and human rights violations. Heck, where is the UN and the world leaders who waste no time in condemning Israel for defending herself against same theocrats and barbaric thugs.

How many of you recall that just a little over 30 years ago, a previous weak, ineffective, effete Democrat president allowed the Ayatollahs to rise to power. Hence resulting in a fleeing of exceptionally gifted Persians and ushering in of a new era of radical Islamic terrorism.

Now, some 30 years later we have a redux of an effete, ineffective President whose nuanced intellectual elite responses offer no support to those desiring Liberty. Indeed, President Obama's apologetic Cairo speech just emboldened the Mad Mullahs and Annoying Ayatollah's, as well as Johnny Jihadi. The theocrats and despotic autocrats who dominate the Islamic world realize they are free to butcher and suppress their own people, young people, who desire one thing.....Freedom.

Imagine if Obama existed in the days of the Soviet Union, Lech Walesa, and Vaclav Havel, would that wall have indeed come down? I know that the "messiah" believes that his mere presence and a teleprompted speech will convice killers to lay down their arms and worship at his feet.

That is the state of delusional malignant narcissism which now occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

We must break the power and control of the theocrats if we are to defeat radical Islamic terrorism. We must have leadership that is bold and convicted and not cower being concerned about "they will blame me if I meddle". The world is watching as America loses respect, but hey, I suppose everyone likes us now.

My message to President Barack Hussein Obama, there is no button to vote "present" in the Oval Office. If you have not the courage to face the enemy, do us a favor, leave the Greatest office in the World and go make speeches, or co-host the Oprah Winfrey Show.

History is indeed repeating itself as the shadow of Sir Neville Chamberlain walks the halls of the White House.

Steadfast and Loyal,
Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (USA, Ret)

Look if we decide to stop saying "teacher, teacher he did this, teacher, teacher they did that, and all stop all this chatter against one another and really work on just helping each other maybe we all will get a different feeling about one another, we can do it. Is there not enough trouble around and we can heal us with a generosity to one another. Let us try we are Americans not just Republicans or Democrats, we are neighbors friends, relatives and I wish with all my heart we could

I hear this years party won't be all Country Music.
Bush changed the joke from: What do you get when you play a country song backwards? You get back your mama, your wife, your dog, your pickup, your trailerhome, your prison record.

To What do you get when you play the Bush Administration backwards?: You get back the economy, The 4000 dead American solders, $2 trillion waisted dollars, the Constitution, CIA spys, Respectably treated Federal Procecuters, an honorable Vice Presidency, The respect of the rest of the world...

Another one of those "i inherited it" sob stories. Go tell it to the congress you have had the last 4 yrs. Do you realize that we are depending on this bunch, Pelosi, Reid, Geithner, and the rest of this spend happy group to fix what they created?

So, what's happening with North Korea, Barry ?

Life in the White house isn't all trips to Paris, the Big Apple, and parties, you know.

The public would like to know WHAT you intend to do to stop the proliferation of nuclear technology.

rafterman1 are you having a problem with dealing in the present ?

Dubya ain't in office, son. Barry is.

Are you telling us Barry should be able to lolly-gag just because someone else did ?

Besides, we were led to believe Barry was soooo much better than Dubya - where's the proof.

I don't see him addressing the Iranians until McCain takes him to task. I don't see him addressing NKs ship as it heads to another cesspool that wants nukes.

Poor Barry, he still thinks terrorists want to talk.
