Palin Ordered To Pay Back Taxes

(AP)

This post was written by Igor Kossov.

Alaska officials on Wednesday ruled that Alaska governor and former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin must pay back taxes to the IRS.

The exact amount the governor must pay is not yet known, but the Associated Press estimates she owes taxes on more than $17,000 in per-diem expenses.

State employees who live more than 50 miles away from Alaska's capital, Juneau, are entitled to state aid in the form of per-diem payments. Juneau is approximately 600 miles from Palin's home town of Wasilla, making the governor eligible for the payments.

But before she accepted the vice presidential nomination, Palin charged the state for over 300 nights spent in her Wasilla home, not the governor's mansion in Juneau. Her expenses usually amounted to $60 per day.

On Wednesday, Alaska state officials decided that the per-diem expenses should be counted as taxable income. Palin's spokesman, Bill McAllister, said the governor would pay the taxes.

I'm sure she won't try and ignore this and will pay the back taxes, unlike some of the other politicians who ignored that they owed taxes and continued lying about it.

OK Neocons, let's hear you attack this moron Republican the same as you attacked Obama's appointments who had similar (but smaller) tax problems. Or is it just a "simple error" when it's one of your own? What a bunch of hypocrites!

According to expense reports, Sarah Palin charged the state of Alaska over $21,000 for her children to travel with her on official business. In fairness to Governor Palin, when she leaves them home alone, they get pregnant.

slteel13,

Yes, these are back taxes, since there are over 300 days of perdiem expenses, and since she was pick for VP in summer 2008, some of those per diem expenses have to go back to 2007... which would have been due on her tax year 2008 payments, Bucko. Some are probably also for 2008 which will be due April 15 of this year... but I can't imagine she won't ask for an extension, tee hee....
